Indian Lake is located in Oakland County, Michigan

About ILIA

NOTICE

In September 2026, the Oakland County Health Division was notified of an algae bloom on the lake and then tested the lake waters for harmful algae toxins. The lab results confirm elevated toxins and the health department recommends a swim advisory. The health department will post additional signage around the lake and advises residents the following:

1. Stay away from algae in the water or on the shore. Children and pets may need to be watched closely.

2. If choosing to swim, stay away from the algae and scum or water that looks like spilled paint.

3. Do not drink this water or use it for cooking food.

4. Dog owners should keep their pets out of the algae and scum.

5. For fish caught here, throw away guts and clean filets with tap water or bottled water before cooking.

6. Do not water lawns or gardens with water from the lake.

7. Call a doctor or veterinarian if you or your pet get sick after going into the water.
